Pop-Up Music School

Pop-Up Music School is dedicated to providing high quality, interactive, and fun classes in general and world music for children ages 0-10. It was founded in January 2019 by Magaly Cordero- Dietz. Pop-Up Music School specifically focuses on exposing children to the beautiful musical traditions of Latin America.

Magaly Cordero-Dietz,

Founder

Magaly Cordero-Dietz is the owner and primary teacher of Pop-Up Music School. An active performer and educator in Chicago, she has been performing classical music throughout the Midwest for over 15 years and is a proud member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Magaly also had a vibrant private voice studio for the last 10 years in Oak Park, IL. In addition to teaching music, Magaly taught Spanish to preschoolers. She previously taught Spanish at Language Stars and also provided Spanish lessons in private homes. she currently assists with the choral music program at Chicago's St. Procopius School. Also, as a daughter of Afro-Dominican and Cuban immigrants, Magaly loves sharing the music of her heritage with her students.

Magaly holds a Bachelor's degree in Music from Northwestern University and a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. A trained classical/ opera singer, she has performed roles with the Cedar Rapids Opera Theater in Iowa, Evanston's The Savoyaires, and Chamber Opera Chicago. She has also sung with the South Shore Opera Company, Music Theater Works, and Wisconsin's Music by the Lake festival.

Magaly was a performing member of Chicago's VOX 3 Collective for ten years. She was also active in its administration, serving on the Board of Directors and as Finance Manager for a majority of her tenure in the group.

Magaly’s passion for music spans genres. When she is not singing classical music, you can occasionally find her at a local family pub singing folks covers for her side project, Maggie and Davy.

After teaching private voice lessons to adolescents and adults, Magaly yearned to return work with younger children. She is devoted to introducing the joys and wonders of music to our littlest artists.
